How would a black person speak in the 1940's?

I am 16 and I am talking about accents'linguistic,sppech pattern because I notice alot of younger black talk in a "ghetto hood chick" accent but I guess its no different from white girls talking in a "valley girl" accent.I believe more enunciation was used back then cause my grandma still talks in that old southern twang compared to me.
