Learning Native American languages?

I'm a linguistic student and I've always had a strong interest in learning indigenous languages, particularly Lakota. I'm wondering if there are any programs available on any American Indian reservation that offer some kind of course in an indigenous language (I'm interested in the politics/cultures of the reservations as well), or if anyone who speaks an indigenous language can suggest a way to a comprehensive understanding of it. I'm kind of at a loss of where to begin, since I don't really have any ties to any aspect of American Indian culture (embarrassingly). .
