Abernathy - what are UBS24 and NA27? Is this to do with United bible society?
you answered a question for me which was unusual. The Westcott and Hort text is the one I have infront of me provided by Jehovah's Witnesses. Are UBS24 and NA27 in any way based on Textus Receptus I would be interested to know. I agree totally with using internal linguistic evidence to translate the scriptures so long as the manuscripts are reliable. If you are a linguist I am sure you will agree with me that due to semantic narrowing and broadening of words, comparing scripture on scripture to get the meaning of words from an ancient language is far more reliable than using a dictionary compiled by clergy from different religions with their own interpretations of ancient words. Also I believe the Textus Receptus to contain at least 1,800 errors - possibly due to the fact it is a 'received text' - i.e. not translated from the original tongues, but back translated from Latin into Greek and then used in the translation work of many different bibles. I do not attempt to trap Jehovah's Witnesses, as I do share many of their views, e.g. the translation of John 1:1 - putting the article 'a' so that it reads 'the word was a god' - as the trinity is a doctrine brought in by the Latin speaking Roman Catholics. Please could you let me know what the texts are you are referring to.
